Harrogate Town secured a 3-1 victory over Tamworth at Wetherby Road on Saturday, a result that keeps them second in the National League standings. The win, their third in a row, came after they conceded an early goal but responded with three of their own to take all three points.
Tamworth took a surprise lead in the sixth minute when Ben Milnes capitalised on a mistake by Harrogate captain Warren Burrell, firing home from around 20 yards. The hosts equalised by the quarter-hour mark, with Bailey Hobson driving through midfield and exchanging passes with Josh Hmami before finishing. Will McGowan put Harrogate ahead just before half-time, converting a low effort from the edge of the box after a cut-back from Lewis Cass on the right flank.
Josh Hmami made the game safe in the 63rd minute, finishing after being slipped in by McGowan following a turnover high up the pitch. The win means Harrogate Town have 16 points from their opening seven league games, sitting just one point behind leaders Boreham Wood.
Manager Simon Weaver told the Harrogate Advertiser he was pleased with a more incisive display compared to the previous home game against Gateshead, which was won via a late own goal. "We showed our desire to score goals," Weaver said. "I think that we are at our best when we show composure and work the ball."
He added that the performance represented a step forward in attacking intent. "When it is free-flowing like that, that is the team that we want to be." the manager said. Goalkeeper Luke Hutchinson made his debut for the club in the match.
Harrogate's recent form reads three wins, one draw and one loss from their last five outings. They next face a significant test at home against third-placed AFC Fylde on Tuesday, 15 September.
