Harrogate Town were beaten at home for the first time this season on Tuesday, falling 2-1 to AFC Fylde. This outcome moved the Sulphurites down two places in the National League after eight games.
Simon Weaver firmly believed his players merited a different result. He stated that while his perspective might be influenced right after the final whistle, he felt the team performed excellently. The manager noted they have secured victories with poorer displays in the past and felt they should have gotten more from the match.
Weaver also mentioned that the opposing coach complimented his team's display after the game, remarking on their quality. He highlighted the team's energetic and forceful pressing, as well as their clear talent.
Harrogate controlled much of the play and generated several opportunities. Will McGowan struck the post, Josh Hmami hit the bar on two occasions, and Shawn McCoulsky was fouled in the penalty area. AFC Fylde went ahead after a shot from Tom Whelan deflected off Sam Dreyer. Luca Thomas soon added a second goal. Ellis Taylor scored a late consolation for the home side, set up by McCoulsky.
The defeat means Harrogate Town now sit in fourth position with 16 points, trailing the league leaders by a single point. Their record from the previous five matches shows three victories and two defeats. The team now faces a challenging away fixture against Boreham Wood, who are in second place.
