Harrogate Town secured a gritty 1-0 away win at Hartlepool United to climb into second place in the National League. Bailey Hobson scored the only goal eight minutes after half-time, his effort taking a heavy deflection before finding the net following William McGowan's assist.

The victory, Harrogate's second clean sheet of the season, lifts them to 22 points from 11 games. The hosts had looked the more threatening side in a wet first half, but Harrogate's defence held firm. Both sides made multiple changes, with yellow cards shown to Harrogate's Brendan Dolaghan and Jack Hmami and Hartlepool's Callum John and Tete Bondo.

Manager Simon Weaver praised his back-line and goalkeeper Luke Hutchinson for a disciplined performance. "What I am really delighted with is the clean sheet," Weaver said. "I couldn’t have asked any more of our back-line." He described the win as 'ugly' but welcomed the defensive effort against Hartlepool's physical forwards, noting the ongoing development of younger defenders like Sam Dreyer and Archie Baptiste.

The result extends Harrogate's recent form to three wins from their last five matches. They now prepare to host tenth-placed AFC Hornchurch this Saturday. Check the full schedule on our fixtures page.

Hartlepool interim co-manager Adam Clayton said he was proud of his side's improved performance in the 1-0 defeat to Harrogate Town on September 29. Clayton insisted his team cannot accept losing despite the display. "I felt sorry for them tonight in a really proud way," Clayton said. "But we can’t accept losing." The win kept second-placed Harrogate, who have 25 goals scored this season, seven points behind leaders Boreham Wood.
