Harrogate Town have signed Toby Brenan from Wigan Athletic. The 19-year-old midfielder is the club's eighth new arrival of the winter window.

What happened?

Brenan started his career with Oxford United before switching to Wigan Athletic in 2018. He established himself in the club's under-21 side and made his first-team debut on the opening day of this season.

Why it matters for Harrogate Town

Harrogate chief Simon Weaver said: "We're delighted to bring Toby in. He's energetic, puts himself about and is up for the challenge here.” Brenan added: "I just want to get out and play games, there's still a lot of games left this season and there's no reason we can’t get out of the position we're in."

What comes next?

Brenan is eligible for Tuesday night's League Two game against Swindon Town at Wetherby Road. Harrogate Town are currently 23rd in England League Two with 39 points from 46 games, having won 10, drawn 9, and lost 27.
